What You Need to know
Dear New Fencers and Families,
We are excited for you to begin your saber fencing journey with us! At West Coast Fencing Academy, we are committed to providing everything you need to succeed in both practice and competition.
For beginners, we provide all the necessary fencing equipment during class. However, some fencers choose to purchase their own gear, starting with direct skin contact items, such as a glove and/or fencing mask. This is not a requirement, but an option based on personal preference.
When it comes to your own equipment, various entry-level saber fencing starter sets are available from different brands. These sets vary in price and quality, and we recommend discussing these options with our coaches to find the best fit for your needs and budget. Some fencers prefer to acquire their gear piece by piece, which allows for a more personalized and gradual investment.
If you plan to compete in tournaments, it's crucial not to leave the acquisition of your gear to the last minute. Make sure to purchase any required parts of your uniform or weapons well ahead of time. This ensures that you have the opportunity to make any necessary exchanges or returns, and to adjust to your new equipment during practice.
We look forward to seeing you on the piste!
Best Regards,
